What is an anagram?

An anagram is a word or phrase made by rearranging every letter of another, using each letter exactly once. LISTEN and SILENT are anagrams — same six letters, different order, different meaning.

Anagram solver or word unscrambler?

They look alike and answer different questions. This page keeps only the words that use all of your letters. The word unscrambler also returns the shorter words hiding inside them, which is what you want at a Scrabble board but not when you are solving an anagram puzzle.

Anagrams of names and long words

Short words have the most anagrams; past about nine letters, single-word anagrams become rare. If nothing comes back, drop a letter or two and look for the longest word your letters hide instead.

What is an anagram?
An anagram uses every letter of the original word exactly once, in a different order. LISTEN and SILENT are anagrams; LIST is not, because it drops letters.
How is this different from the word unscrambler?
The unscrambler returns every word your letters can build, including shorter ones. The anagram solver keeps only the words that use all of them.
Can I use it on names?
Yes. Type any name and the solver returns the dictionary words that rearrange to it. Longer names have fewer single-word anagrams.
